Position Description: This is a new full-time opportunity that will play an important role on the nonprofit campus and in the community and will report to the Harrelson Center Executive Director. Housing Navigation is a new program that builds on the Help Hub and the Harrelson Center’s existing network of programmatic partners and volunteers to offer concierge-level service to assist low-income families and individuals navigate housing and housing-related programs in the Greater Wilmington area. This leadership role is tasked with providing professional social work services, problem solving, resource navigation, and goal setting assistance to households in person, over the phone, and virtually. The Housing Navigation Manager will empower clients to access existing housing and housing-related resources by offering the following means of support:

a. knowledge of existing programs, including eligibility requirements, vacancy, and program structure.
b. completion of applications and securing of necessary documents.
c. appointment/interview scheduling.
d. transportation.
e. mitigating threats to existing housing (e.g. utility arrears, eviction mediation, etc.)
f. tenant education.
g. follow up; and
h. financial and material assistance.

The Housing Navigation Manager will be cross trained in Help Hub program operations as an assistant manager and advisor for financial assistance crises, supporting and expanding Help Hub services and clients, and assisting with walk-ins by scheduling appointments, connecting clients with campus and community partners, and planning nonprofit/coalition group classes training.

Daily tasks include strengths-based counseling, referrals and relationships development, person-centered case management, and forming realistic 90-day plans through balanced collaboration between client, Manager, and partner organizations. The Housing Navigation Manager will capture data and track program outcomes using Salesforce, providing updates and reports to the Director and other stakeholders. The Manager will represent the Harrelson Center in community problem-solving initiatives and coalitions active in affordable housing solutions.

The right candidate will possess:

– A passion for affordable housing and a deep understanding of housing and housing-related resources in New Hanover County

– Experience with CRM software and a proven track record of capturing, analyzing, and reporting programmatic data

– Comfortability with outreach, relationship building, networking, and public speaking

– Strong ability to create trusting connections with vulnerable populations

– A self-starter attitude with the ability to stay organized in a fast-paced environment

– A commitment to best practices and to the dignity and autonomy of program participants

Qualifications:

– Bachelor or Master’s degree of social work or related field from accredited institution

– Direct experience with vulnerable populations, 3+ years preferred

– Bilingual preferred, not required

– Purpose and values driven, demonstrating kindness, care, patience, and empathy

– Strong verbal, written, presentation, and communication skills

– Team player on and off campus to the staff and partners and community collaborations

Position starting salary: $52,000/year, includes twelve paid holidays, earned paid time off, medical, vison, and dental health benefit options, and opportunity for savings through Simple IRA with 3% organizational match.
