As property taxes burdens increase across the state, the NC Housing Coalition is working at the state level to recommend smart policy solutions and at the local level to support some of the most impacted communities in pursuing property tax justice.
Property Tax Levy Limit Analysis
Proponents of HB1089, which proposes a constitutional amendment to require statewide levy limits on property taxes, claim a levy limit will provide relief for cost-burdened homeowners. However, our analysis shows that on average, a levy limit will save homeowners less than $100 per year while counties will lose up to 20% of their revenue for schools, infrastructure, and public safety. The data gives us a broader picture of which counties will face the most severe impacts and how a levy limit will ultimately be detrimental to local governments. Read our full analysis.

Community Justice Collaborative
The Community Justice Collaborative of the NC Housing Coalition is a new Triangle-region initiative working in and with a dozen historically Black neighborhoods facing various stages of gentrification. The primary purpose of the Collaborative is to:
- Support and connect community-led efforts in historically Black communities to prevent the displacement of long-term neighbors
- Enable affordable and equitable housing development fulfilling neighborhood visions
