Federal Updates

21st Century ROAD to Housing Act Discussion Renewed
POLITICO reported this morning that the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act is under discussion again and could go to the floor for a vote in the House as soon as next week. Housing Financial Services Chair French Hill (R-SC) and Ranking Member Maxine Waters (D-CA) have been working to amend the bill after the House rejected the Senate’s version of the bill in March. House leadership does not support a provision that would put limits on institutional investors purchasing single-family homes. The National Low Income Housing Coalition recently released an updated explainer on the bill that you can check out here.

HUD Proposes to Rescind LGBTQ+ Anti-Discrimination Protections in HUD Programs; Advocates 4 Trans Equality Launches Campaign Opposing Rule | NLIHC
On April 28, HUD published a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM), “Equal Access to Housing in HUD Programs Revisions.” The NPRM seeks to remove regulatory provisions that protect access to HUD shelter and housing programs regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. If finalized, the rule would remove vital protections for LGBTQ+ people trying to access HUD programs. The public comment period is open until June 29. We will continue to keep an eye on this and share any updates about additional opportunities to speak out against this proposed rule.
