Calling all advocates, community members, organizations, and allies! The North Carolina Housing Coalition, Habitat NC, and the NC Coalition to End Homelessness invite you to participate in our 2025 NC Housing Day at the NC General Assembly on Wednesday, April 9 in downtown Raleigh. Register here.
The goal of NC Housing Day is to make housing a top priority for your elected officials as they develop the state’s two-year budget and legislative priorities for the rest of the year. According to our County Profiles, 48% of renters and 19% of homeowners in North Carolina pay more than 30% of their income on housing, and housing prices continue to rise dramatically across the state. But statistics don’t tell the whole story. Your legislators need to hear directly from you, their constituents, about the housing needs in your community.
At NC Housing Day, you’ll have the opportunity to meet with your state legislators to advocate for housing in your community. You’ll also connect with other housing advocates across the state and learn more about how you can engage with housing advocacy year-round. The NC Housing Coalition, Habitat NC, and the NC Coalition to End Homelessness will also provide advocacy training and resources ahead of your meetings with legislators.
NCHC’s 2025 Housing Day will begin at 8:30am and will end by 3:00pm. The NC General Assembly is in downtown Raleigh, and we will share additional details about our downtown gathering point soon. Registration is free! Light breakfast and lunch will be provided.
NC Housing Champions Networking Dinner
Ahead of NC Housing Day on April 9th, we invite you to join our NC Housing Champions Networking Dinner on April 8th at Nest Raleigh. This a great opportunity to connect with NC Housing Day hosts, fellow advocates from across the state, and special legislative guests. Cocktail hour begins at 6:30, with dinner served at 7:00. Tickets are $35 per person. Register for the dinner here.
How to Schedule a Meeting with Your Elected Official
There are several ways to schedule a meeting with your elected officials. Here are some tips as well as links to key information you’ll need to set up your meetings.
Finding Information about State Elected Officials
To find all official information about bills, committee meetings, and more importantly office locations, and contact information for elected officials and their legislative assistant you can visit www.ncleg.gov.
To view a list of the NC House Members for the 2025-2026 legislative session click here.
To view a list of the NC Senate Members for the 2025-2026 legislative session, click here.
You can sort both of these lists by District, and all of the members will appear with not only their district numbers but also all counties that fall within that district.
Scheduling a Meeting
Once you find your member in the NC Senate and/or NC House that you would like to meet with, click their name to arrive at their info page. You’ll find their email, phone number, and the email and name of their legislative assistant as well.
Typically meetings on days like this range 15-20 minutes unless the member is able to stay in a longer meeting between being in session, committee meetings, and other commitments they’ll likely have going on that day.
Request a meeting via Email
- Use the representatives email AND include their Legislative Assistant’s email address in your message to them.
- Request to meet with them briefly to talk about the importance of Housing to you, your community, and North Carolina.
- Make sure to give them the date for Housing Day – April 9, 2025 and between 9:00am and 3:00pm.
Request a meeting via Phone
- Call the main phone number that appears on the member’s info page.
- If you reach their legislative assistant, go ahead and request a brief meeting with the member, for Housing Day 2025 on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 between 9:00am and 3:00pm.
If you do not get a response right away, do not worry. Follow up after a few days by phone and or email. If you need additional support don’t hesitate to reach out to the NC Housing Coalition.
Preparing for Housing Day 2025
Virtual training around legislative engagement and advocacy will take place in March. NC Housing Day hosts will distribute advocacy materials and lead a brief advocacy prep session before heading to the General Assembly the morning of April 9.
