Participate in NCHC’s Upcoming Legislative Week of Action – Starting April 19th

Pamela Atwood, Director of Housing Policy

The North Carolina General Assembly is now in the midst of drafting their proposed FY 2021-2023 state budget. Now is the time for all those concerned with the state of housing in NC to get involved and call on legislators to ensure that the state makes adequate and sustained investments in housing.

In order to build a stronger housing movement for housing, the Coalition has formed the “Advocates Circle” which is designed to grow housing professionals across the state into champions for affordable housing. The Coalition works to build relationships and increase your advocacy capacity by providing training, resources, and support. The Advocates Circle will also seek to diversify the base of support for housing resources beyond housing professionals to those whose work intersects with housing. We will also seek to better organize those who are most impacted by a lack of affordability to have a greater say in the systems that impact them. The Advocates Circles primary purpose is to empower you to mobilize your own networks (staff, volunteers, clients, etc.) and build a people-powered message that will influence policy makers at all levels of government. Our mission is to ensure that every North Carolinian has a home in which to live with dignity and opportunity, and the Advocate’s Circle will help us grow this movement and increase our impact through a unified message.

On April 7th the Coalition hosted an Introductory Meeting to prepare members to participate in the upcoming Week of Action (week of April 19th). The Coalition is encouraging participants to organize activities to engage state legislators to impress upon them the need to appropriate funds for housing programs.
