Congress to Adjourn for Midterms
The House adjourned last Wednesday, September 16 for members to focus on midterm election campaigning. The Senate was originally supposed to be in session until the beginning of October, but it looks like they are aiming to adjourn at the end of this week. Both chambers are scheduled to return after the midterm recess on November 9, when they will face a long list of to-dos before the end of the year, including keeping the government funded past December 11.
House Committee Passes Eviction Helpline Act
During last week’s House Financial Services Committee markup, committee members voted 47-2 to pass the Eviction Helpline Act through committee. This bill would create a helpline for HUD-assisted households facing a potential eviction, connecting them to counseling, resources, and other services to help them remain stably housed.

Disaster Recovery Housing Updates
The Governor’s Advisory Committee on Western North Carolina Recovery will meet virtually on Friday, September 25, 10:00am – 12:00pm. Members of the public can register for the meeting at this link. There will not be an opportunity for public comment, but questions and feedback can be shared at wncrecovery@nc.gov.
