It is hard to believe that the end of 2024 is less than four months away. With the swirling energy around elections both local and national, great convenings like the 2024 NC Affordable Housing Conference in Raleigh last week, our policy and advocacy team is happy to announce and invite you to our 2025 Housing Day at the NC General Assembly on April 9, 2025.
We want to make it clear not only that housing must be invested in at higher levels and that there is much work to be done, but that the entire state of North Carolina–its housing organizations and their allies and friends–believes in the importance of affordable housing and We want our state elected officials to hear our message and take action.
Our affordability crisis is not limited to urban areas. It is not limited to certain individuals, and no solutions are possible when we work in silos. When we consider the interventions around supply, subsidy, stability, and systems that could positively impact communities across North Carolina, compared to the current resources, legal infrastructure and policies in place, it often feels like our hands are tied, or–for fear of losing resources or favor–we must settle for incremental change.
The new legislative session that begins in January 2025 is an opportunity to capitalize on the momentum around affordable housing conversations happening throughout our state and to push for true impactful change. As we refresh our policy priorities, attend convenings big and small, and continue to have meaningful conversations across our state and ecosystem, we know that this type of work takes time and collaboration, and that is why we need your support.
