Looking Ahead to 2025

In the final weeks of 2024, we want to share what we’re planning so far for 2025. It will be a busy year with ample opportunity for stronger and deeper connections, learning, collaboration, and collective action.

January 2025 will bring in a new legislative session and new congress. Over the last several months, we’ve had conversations with allies and partners across the state and listened intently to understand what our communities are facing and how the Coalition can continue work alongside those in our housing ecosystem for more just and affordable communities across North Carolina.

At the federal level, we continue to engage consistently with our national partners. Our federal priorities below reflect not only the dialogue we’ve been engaging in at the national level, but the key areas that we heard throughout the year and during our policy discussions with many of you across the state that continue to impact our communities and our work.

  • Strengthening the Housing Credit
  • Disaster Recovery
  • Permanently Authorize the CDBG-DR program!
  • Protect and strengthen our vital housing, community development, and homelessness resources and programs.

Our 2025-2026 Policy Agenda reflects what we learned during those conversations as well as the major events that have occurred in our state. We cannot do this work alone – we never do this work alone – so we hope you join us in the new year and beyond to continue pushing for a North Carolina where everyone has a home with dignity and opportunity.

Save the Dates
Get a head start on your 2025 calendar! Here are some key dates for resource releases, conferences, and special convenings that we’d love for you to be a part of!

Release of the 2025 NC County Profiles: January 15, 2025
The NC Housing Coalition’s County Profiles provide a snapshot of housing needs for each of North Carolina’s 100 counties. They provide data on cost-burdened households paying at least 30% of their income for housing, a comparison of what different jobs pay and changes in home prices, foreclosures, and rental options in our communities. You can view the 2024 County Profiles here

Pre-Housing Day Training: April 8
On the afternoon before our NC Housing Day, we are planning a networking and training event to connect with advocates, allies, and practitioners across the state and prepare together for the legislative day of action on April 9th. More details to come!

NC Housing Day: April 9
Your legislators need to hear from you! We’re inviting advocates from across the state to join us at the NC General Assembly for a day of targeted housing advocacy. We want to make it clear not only that housing must be invested in at higher levels and that there is much work to be done, but that the entire state of North Carolina–its housing organizations and their allies and friends–believes in the importance of affordable housing. We want our state elected officials to hear our message and take action.

Bringing It Home: Ending Homelessness in NC: May 15-16
Bringing It Home: Ending Homelessness in NC is a statewide annual conference dedicated to ensuring that homelessness in North Carolina is rare, brief, and one time only. The two-day conference includes more than a dozen presentations, panels, and workshops covering a broad range of topics related to homelessness. There are also opportunities to network and share insights with fellow professionals and advocates. The Call for Presentation Proposals is currently open through January 13.

NC Affordable Housing Conference: September 30-October 1
The NC Affordable Housing Conference is an annual statewide convening of affordable housing professionals. Each year, the NC Affordable Housing Conference features informative and timely breakout sessions on a broad range of topics including tax credits, home ownership, housing counseling, nonprofits, and more. During the conference, the NC Housing Coalition Breakfast celebrates the achievements of housing advocates across the state and gives attendees the opportunity to collaborate with the Coalition’s upcoming policy and advocacy initiatives.
