Federal Call to Action 1-11-2024
Congress’s tax-writing committees met on January 10 to discuss the details of the tax package currently being negotiated. Although there is a lot of congressional support for the Housing Credit, there has not been any confirmation yet that it will be a part of the deal being discussed. This may be our LAST opportunity this year for provisions of the Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act (AHCIA) to move forward.
ADVOCACY ACTION
Reach out to ALL your representatives in Congress and ask them to reach out to congressional and the tax-writing committee leadership in support of the Housing Credit. There are two main provisions that are critical and should be included in any tax package that moves forward:
- Restore the 12.5% volume boost that expired in 2021; and;
- Reduce the Private Activity Bond threshold for 4% Housing Credits from 50% to 25%
These provisions alone could finance an additional 1.5 million new affordable homes over the next 10 years! There are several resources available to support advocacy communications with elected officials and raising awareness of the importance of the AHCIA.
If you would like to use a template to write a letter to your representatives in congress, the ACTION campaign has one available by clicking here – enter your zip code and your representatives will pop up as well as a pre-designed form and letter encouraging your representatives to support the Housing Credit!
