If you have experienced problems buying or selling a manufactured home you have a few options:
- Call the NC Department of Insurance, Manufactured Building Division at 919-647-0000. The state maintains a Manufactured Housing Board that mediates disputes between the industry and consumers;
- Send a Consumer Complaint to the NC Attorney General’s office. You can also reach them by phone at 1-877-5-NO-SCAM; or
- Visit the Legal Aid of NC website to find the office closest to you. Legal Aid provides legal assistance to people with low incomes.
Manufactured Housing and Energy Efficiency
In 2005, the System Building Research Alliance (formerly the Manufactured Housing Research Alliance) published Manufactured Homes: Saving Money by Saving Energy. This guide presents practical, energy-saving tips for owners of manufactured homes. The Alliance also maintains a list of plants actively building ENERGY STAR qualified manufactured homes.
